In the process of assisting newly arrived students, and other visitors, it is clear that many of them are not aware of the consequences of not having adequate health and accidental insurance. This lead to design of a special health insurance program to cover students and visitors from Abroad to the United States. The India Network Health Insurance Program has been the brain child of Dr. KV Rao, a demographer and a statistician by training. Professor Rao spent enormous time in studying various programs and talking to several members of physician groups such as American Association of Physicians of India Origin and came up with the plan in 1991. The plan originally attracted students and few parents in 1991, the first year of its operation. Today, India Network health insurance program is leading the accident and health insurance programs in the United States offering coverage for pre-existing conditions without any medical underwriting for immigrants, students, temporary workers.
It is advised that all visitors get health insurance for new and existing conditions, accidents, and death (funeral and repatriation benefits).
