Indian Passport for Minor Children Under 18 Years of Age

In this article, we will go over the step-by-step guide to obtaining an Indian passport for minors under 18 years of age in the United States. From paperwork to cost considerations and beyond, read on to learn more about how you can apply for an Indian passport on behalf of your child.

Passport validity

If your child is under the age of 10 years, their passport will be valid for 5 years. If your child is between the ages of 10-16 years, their passport will be valid for 10 years. For minors under the age of 16, passports are renewable.

Separate passport

1.    All children, regardless of age, must have their own passports to travel internationally.

2.    Passports for children under the age of 16 are valid for 5 years, while those 16 and older are valid for 10 years.

3.    You will need to provide proof of your child’s citizenship, such as a birth certificate or naturalization certificate when applying for their passport.

4.    If you are the legal guardian of a minor child, you will need to provide proof of your relationship as well as consent from the other parent or guardian in order to apply for a passport on their behalf.

5.    The application process for a child’s passport is the same as that for an adult’s, with a few additional requirements. Be sure to allow plenty of time for the application to be processed, as it can take up to 8 weeks.

Signature Specifications for Minors

A minor child’s passport application must include the consent of either parents or legal guardians. If only one parent or guardian provides consent, they must present evidence of sole authority to apply for the passport.

When applying for a passport for a minor child under the age of 16, either parents or legal guardians must sign the application form in ink. If only one parent or guardian is available to sign, they must provide evidence of their legal right to do so. The signature of either parents or legal guardians is also required on the minor child’s passport.

Thumb impression

You may also need to provide a thumb impression. This can be done by using an ink pad or digital finger scanner.

To take a thumb impression, the child must place their right thumb on the ink pad or digital finger scanner. The impression should be taken in such a way that the full thumbprint is visible. Once the impression has been taken, it should be placed on the appropriate page of the passport application form.

If you are using a digital finger scanner, you may need to provide additional information such as the child’s date of birth and gender. This information will be used to create a unique profile for the child in the system.

Indian Passport under the age of 5 years old

Indian passports for children under the age of 5 years old are valid for 5 years from the date of issue. After the child’s 5th birthday, a new passport must be obtained. The process is similar to applying for an adult passport, with a few additional requirements.

When applying for a new passport for a child under 5 years old, parents or guardians will need to provide:

·         A copy of the child’s birth certificate.

·         A copy of the child’s school ID or report card.

·         A copy of the child’s passport photo.

·         The original signed consent form from both parents.

Indian Passport for a US-Born Child of Indian Parentage

If you are a parent of Indian origin holding a US passport and your child was born in the US, then your child is eligible for an Indian passport. In order to apply for an Indian passport for your child, you will need to submit the following documents:

·         Proof of Indian citizenship of both parents (e.g. birth certificate, passport, etc.).

·         Child’s birth certificate.

·         Parent’s valid US passport.

·         Two recent photographs of the child

Once you have all of the required documentation, you can submit your child’s passport application online or via mail. It is important to note that if your child is under the age of 10, their passport will only be valid for 5 years. For children aged 10-15, their passports will be valid for 10 years.
