Language barriers can be a powerful tool for both promoting and inhibiting the full integration of immigrants into their new communities. While language can be a powerful tool for social cohesion, a lack of knowledge of the local language can keep immigrants isolated and can result in the erosion of their ability to fully participate in the cultural and economic life of the host country.
